The Russian Foreign Ministry has described the situation over the US prison in Guantanamo Bay as unprecedented in modern history, saying that 171 inmates “remain in a legal vacuum and in the dark about their future.” US allies have been refusing to accept prisoners from Guantanamo Bayover the lack of progress in curtailing the prison, the ministry said in a statement on Monday. With some 3,000 people who are confined in similar conditions in Afghanistan, “it serves as an indication of crude violations of international law by the US,” the statement said.
